Previously, Samantha read for a Bachelor in Archaeology at the University of Melbourne, Australia, and a MSc in Archaeological Science at the University of Oxford, UK. Her Master dissertation resulted in the discovery\u00a0of the first Neanderthal-Denisovan hybrid \u00a0from Denisova Cave, Russia (&#8220;<em>Denisova 11&#8243;<\/em>).<\/p>\n<p>For her PhD, Sam worked on the northern Asia component of FINDER, mainly examining sites in Siberia (Altai and Transbaikal regions), using ZooMS, stable isotopes and radiocarbon dating.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_77\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-77\" style=\"width: 522px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/finderc.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/da_brown_samantha-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"522\" height=\"696\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-77\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Samantha Brown &#8211; FINDER PhD student<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Naihui Wang<\/strong>\u00a0joined FINDER in April 2019 and she is the project&#8217;s second PhD student. Naihui received her Bachelor and Master degrees in Archaeology from Northwest University in China.<\/p>\n<p>For her PhD, Naihui is focusing on China and the establishment of a high-throughput ZooMS facility under the auspices of the\u00a0Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology in Beijing. Naihui is working closely together, and under the direction, of several Chinese scientists in order to access Palaeolithic bone assemblages, mostly from the north of the country.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_675\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-675\" style=\"width: 525px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"font-size: 1rem;\" src=\"https:\/\/finderc.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/MPI-Finder-Naihui-Wang-683x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"525\" height=\"787\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-675\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Naihui Wang, FINDER PhD student<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Dr Annette Oertle<\/strong>\u00a0joined our team in\u00a0January 2020, as research assistant\/\u00a0technician. Anette holds a PhD from the\u00a0University of Sydney, Australia, specialising on shell taphonomy and\u00a0diagenetic processes, and has\u00a0broad experience working in the Pacific.\u00a0She will be spending time sampling and\u00a0processing\u00a0material for ZooMS from several sites\u00a0across Asia, Oceania and Europe.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_732\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-732\" style=\"width: 525px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/finderc.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/Annette-1024x952.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"525\" height=\"488\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-732\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Annette Oertle, research assistant for FINDER sampling animal bones from Melanesia.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Blair Jope-Street<\/strong>\u00a0worked FINDER between September 2018-February 2021 as part-time technician to help us sample the many bone fragments in the collections we work with.
